Tapered 1.5" lower to 1-1/8" upper; 1-1/4" to 1-1/8" is also available. Tapered head tube designs are stiffer and stronger than conventional straight head tubes, with the added benefit of offering a greater surface area for welding. Minimal flex at the front of the frame provides increased steering precision and accuracy.
BB86 is among the new bottom bracket standards. It offers frame designers more clearance and provides increased stiffness. BB86 equipped bikes have an 86.5mm wide shell, with an 41mm inside diameter, and utilize a "standard" crank with external BB bearings.
